National Fish & Chip Day Friday 25th June 2010

Broadway Plaza - the ‘plaice’ to be for National Fish and Chip Day

Celebrate 150 years of Britain’s national dish - good old fish and chips – by joining a picnic with a difference at Birmingham city’s Broadway Plaza on Friday 25th June between 12noon and 7pm.

The Great British Eatery, England’s best Fish and Chip shop, will be marking the 150th anniversary by staging a fish and chip picnic where customers can purchase their award winning fish fried in beef drippings, along with some chips for just £1.50, provided they make a donation to national charity Fishermen’s Mission.

The chair from Fishermen’s Mission, Lady Elaine Campbell will be at the picnic helping to raise money for the UK charity which fights poverty and despair by providing emergency and welfare support to fishermen and their families.

Co-owner of the Great British Eatery, Andy Insley said: “Customers will not only be rewarded with a delicious meal in a fun setting, they will also know that by taking part they are making a real difference to the lives of fishermen and their families.

To add atmosphere to this celebratory event, customers are invited to bring along their own blanket and be entertained in the Plaza Courtyard where the Great British Eatery has organised a musical feast.

Arthur Webb, Broadway Plaza’s centre Manager added: “It will be a great family fun day out in a lively city centre location. There will be a fantastic atmosphere and it’s a chance to celebrate all that is truly British.”

Leading local radio station BRMB will be down at lunchtime playing live music. Customers can also listen to a traditional brass band between 12 noon and 2pm and popular group Love Child Electric between 5.30pm and 7.00pm.

The Great British Eatery has been recognised for the quality of its food and their exceptional standards of hygiene and food handling having been awarded five stars in the Seafish Fryers Quality awards. They also fully support the Birmingham community by using locally sourced products.
